Idea: Carbonated Fruit
To create some "fizzy fruit" using dry ice, simply take a small insulated cooler (the smaller the better) and place dry ice in the bottom. Cover the dry ice with a dish towel to create a barrier between the dry ice and the fruit (this way the fruit doesn't freeze). For best results, use fruit that has a high juice content (strawberries, watermelon, kiwis, grapes, pineapples, and peaches are great for this!) Close the cooler tightly and wrap the lid securely in saran wrap so that the gas from the dry ice is contained. Let sit overnight or up to 24 hours. When you open the cooler, your fruit will be carbonated! For this to work, make sure that the cooler is tightly sealed.
Idea: Dry Ice Soft Serve
Ingredients:
-1/2 cup sugar
-2 cups whole milk
-1/2 cup cream
-6 Tbsp dry milk powder
-1/4 tsp vanilla extract
-1/4 tsp salt
-1 pound of dry ice blended into a dry powder
Mix ingredients while slowly sprinkling in a pound of dry ice until stiff. Freeze for at least an hour so that all of the dry ice sublimates. If you don't have a pound of dry ice, the recipe can be halved.
Enjoy Dry Ice....Safely!
