Location Tour Part 1: New Castle, DE

Location Tour Part 1: New Castle, DE

Cayla Stoltzfoos |

As a business with multiple locations in two different states, we realize that not all of our customers are familiar with each of our locations. To help you learn about each location and their unique functions and offerings, we are planning to do location tours over the next few weeks! This week, we’re “visiting” the place where it all started for Stoltzfus Meats: New Castle Farmers Market.

The History

The New Castle Farmers Market is the place where Amos Stoltzfus, the founder of Stoltzfus Meats, and his wife, Mary, began the business in 1954. Amos and Mary began selling meats and other goods from Lancaster County at the market, which is located at a highly-trafficked corner a few miles outside the Old Town of New Castle. The market was started shortly after World War II on land once owned by the William Penn Family.

For more information on our humble market beginnings, be sure to check out the “Our Story” page of our website or our post on the History of Stoltzfus Meats. Since 1954, we have expanded our offerings at market and in 2008, we started operating out of newly renovated market stands. Today, we have five different stands that make up a portion of the PA Dutch section of the market.

Market Stands

Meat & Deli

Based off the name of our company, you can probably guess that the meat stand is our largest stand at the market. It boasts an 80-foot showcase featuring smoked and fresh meats, including our sausage grillers and bacon, among many other options. Additionally, we offer a large variety of deli meats and cheeses.

Poultry

This stand offers all of your favorite chicken and turkey products. This includes a selection of antibiotic-free poultry, chicken sausage, turkey sausage, stuffed chicken breasts, and many other poultry products.

Salads

Our salads stand has a variety of foods that are ready to eat, such as deli salads, soups, pudding, additional desserts, and some meal items from our Farmhouse Meal line, such as lasagna or macaroni and cheese. You can grab our delicious homemade chicken salad or a chocolate mousse dessert, depending on what you’re craving when you visit! This stand has something for everyone.

Bakery

A crowd favorite for those with a sweet tooth, our bakery department is full of fresh baked goods straight from the oven, including sticky buns, homemade breads, cookies, pies, cakes, whoopie pies; the list goes on and on. We also offer some snack options from the bakery stand, including cheeses, beef jerky, and snack sticks.

 Juice

Last, but certainly not least, is our juice stand, which is the newest department to join the Stoltzfus stands. We offer a variety of juice products including fresh-squeezed orange juice, ginger green juice, wellness shots, or our own energy drinks. Additionally, you can pick from fresh-cut fruit cups, fruit and yogurt parfaits, smoothie kits, and much more.
