Vanilla Pie: A Traditional Amish Wedding Dessert

Vanilla Pie: A Traditional Amish Wedding Dessert

Stoltzfus Meats |

Continuing on the theme of Amish Weddings, we are excited to talk about Vanilla Pie! November is the traditional month for Amish Weddings, as the harvest comes to an end and families gather around food to celebrate the union of new couples.

What is Vanilla Pie?

Much like Shoofly Pie, Vanilla Pie is wet-bottom pie, meaning that the bottom part of the pie is a "wet" filling, topped with sweet crumbs that create a gradation of moisture. The top of the pie consists of dry crumbs, the middle is slightly more moist, and the bottom is wet and flavorful. Made with real vanilla extract, vanilla pie consists of a dark, sweet vanilla filling on the bottom of the pie. The sweet crumbs also add flavor. Our Vanilla Pie is made from scratch by a local Amish baker with NO preservatives!

Vanilla Pie and Amish Weddings

Amish weddings are a time for friends and family to gather around food. Like many other aspects of Amish life, weddings are guided by traditions unique to the Amish way of life. This includes the food served at Amish weddings. Amish Wedding Roast, Amish Peanut Butter Spread, and Vanilla Pie are all typical dishes served at Amish weddings. Meals are enjoyed family style in shifts, as Amish weddings are large affairs. With treats like Vanilla Pie, Amish wedding meals are memorable and filling!

Enjoy Vanilla Pie at Home

You can create your own Amish Wedding Feast at home! Simply order some Vanilla Pie, Amish Wedding Roast, and Amish Peanut Spread for delivery. Be sure to store your Vanilla Pie in the freezer until it's ready to eat. Storing in in the refrigerator will dry out the pie. The pie can be safely enjoyed at room temperature. This pie goes great with coffee and ice cream! And be sure to let us know what you think of this special Amish treat.
